Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many borders.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains a number of amenities in addition to the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
