Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that features many luxuries in addition to the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
